This thread is an interesting discussion. My daughter switched to Gold this past season, and did two years of level 4 prior to that. She had a really successful year and placed top 3 at States, and top 50 out of 700ish gymnasts. She regularly scored 37ish this season, and she is being asked to...
I've asked my daughter's gym before summer assignments came out. She is still at an age where she needs childcare during the summer, and I needed to know how many days a week she would be going to practice. Where I live, you need to have summer child care lined up by April
My daughter experienced a similar situation - for a while she was contemplating quitting or changing gyms, because everyone in her training group was always 2-4 years older than her. They were all really patient and sweet with my daughter - she could be a handful at times when she was younger...
So, based on what i've read on these forums, and discussions with other parents, coaches, gymnasts, ect. a gymnast typically needs to be a level 10 by grade 9/10 at the latest to have a decent shot at a D1 school.
I'm curious in regards to how much of that is simply the time needed to get...
IMHO, as a parent I think it reflects poorly on the entire business. I wouldn't want to risk my child's wellbeing where this type of stuff is happening in the building, even if it's a separate program.
To me it speaks to poor leadership from the owners/managers, and I wouldn't trust them to...
Wow. On one hand, I'm sure you're relieved she's gone, on the other hand, it's really unfortunate that the owners didn't bother to take action until they were on the receiving end of the abuse.
Oh wow, I wouldn't even think of the vestibular effects of amusement park rides! I mostly think of how nauseous they make me 🤣
I would let my kid go on the rides - she's a kid and wants to have fun.
My daughter is in 5th grade, Xcel Gold. Her practices are 5-8:30. The timing works out for her since school ends at 2:20, and starts at 8:15am. That gives her enough time to do homework, have a snack, hang out with friends, ect. Then go to gymnastics, come home, eat dinner, shower, bed by...
My daughter's gym has competed against MEGA several times, and they look fantastic. They're always placing well, and the girls were super warm and friendly to my daughter when she was in a rotation with them by herself a few years back. We are north of the city, but MEGA was on our list when we...
Ugh that darn kip! My daughter didn't learn good technique with her old coaches, and basically hard to start from scratch last year. She finally has it, but the free hip and flyway are inconsistent skills for her.
I'm grateful for XCEL! She was getting so bored with compulsories and having to...
My daughter is switching from DP level 4 to XCEL gold/plat. I'm curious to see how this plays out since XCEL is used so differently from gym to gym it seems.
It looks like many gyms in our region use XCEL as it's intended - an option for kids who want to compete in gymnastics, while pursing...
I agree on the whole - gymnastics doesn't have to lead to D1/Elite to be worthwhile.
With that said, as a parent who is spending quite a lot of $ on the sport, I would want to know what a realistic path for my child looks like. Some parents have little knowledge of the sport and think their 13...
OP, does your team have a family/team directory? It might not hurt to reach out to other parents via email to see if there's a group of families interested in carpooling.
I've heard some mixed things about Brestyan's since the ownership change. I know some level 8-10 gymnasts who switched to RGA or Yellowjackets since the change.
Still, it might be worth a visit and chat with the gym, if you end up in the Boston area, it's possible that there were some growing...
