I have actually been going on an 8-incher on the floor, which doesn't hurt at all. Then I moved to the 4-incher but I guess my body wasn't prepared for the harder landing. But my ankles are fine everywhere else. I think I just need to get stronger, but I appreciate your concern :).
I have two questions:
Is a double back (tucked) on floor a C or D?
Also, for my doubles, I've realized that my ankles aren't as strong as I'd like them to be on my landings. Any good ankle conditioning suggestions (or conditioning that would help make landing less painful)?
Thanks!
Well, we have a fairly small gym. Each day (for team) there's probably about 30-40 USAG girls and maybe 20-30 IGC, depending in the day. I think for all of us we go through around 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 blocks per day, just an estimate. I was just wondering because our coach is always mad at us for...
Just out of curiosity, about how much chalk does your gym go through (like on a daily or weekly basis)? I'm wondering if our gym overuses chalk or is average.
I learned Tkachev, which I guess is fairly similar to a Shaposh because of the shoulder part and going over the bar. I also started learning Shaposh, but didn't really have the time for it this year. Maybe next season! ;) Anyway, the tumble track bar drill really helps get the timing with the...
By the way, twisting is not generally my thing... I did round off half dismount fine but just can't seem to get it around to do a full, let alone 1 1/2...
Also front dismounts weren't really my thing either.
Any ideas?
*My excuse is that I LOVE beam so much that I just do NOT want to get off...
I'm from a California gym too, and we went to the WOGA meet back in 2011. My teammate, who by the way is amazing anyway, at most CA meets scored high 37's to mid 38's, and she scored a 39 in TX. I usually scored mid-high 36's and got a mid-37 in TX.
I like starting on bars the best because then the last event is vault, which is typically my 'relax' event... If you can even have a relax event in gymnastics...
Here's my full situation:
We had been using a table trainer off of the floor into the pit we have for tumbling, but that was about a year ago. Since the table trainer wasn't high enough, we had to put a 4-inch mat on top of it. This made the table trainer really squishy. It wasn't hard to pop...
I am a Level 9 gymnast, and you basically described my situation after Level 7 verbatim. There are skills that your niece will be scared of, and there are some that will come easily for her. She just has to know to trust her body, her coaches, and her best judgement. If she sticks with it...
I think that as long as your twisting is comfortable and controllable and that you are twisting the same direction for both front and back, then it doesn't matter which direction you are twisting. However, to figure out which way you are going, you could do whatever amount of twisting is easiest...
I do Yurchenko vaults. Personally, the hardest part for me is getting my run powerful and consistent, but otherwise it's the form after punching on the springboard and before hitting the table.
