Anon How many injuries before it's pragmatic to call it quits?

I think I'd say the point to call it quits is when you see a pattern of no longer enjoying it overall. Personally, I get injured. I got injured a lot as a kid who did no sports. I get injured now as an adult gymnast. Half my injuries aren't caused by gymnastics. Getting to D1 imo shouldn't be...

Women Strap bars with gloves too slippery?

Also you dont wanna know how often my coach has had to go "thumbs!" bc I'm such an uneven bars girl normally so its very counterintuitive for me, but super important for the safey. (Im not swinging with my hands wrong, but he was spotting my flyaway and then when i wait in support i...

Women Strap bars with gloves too slippery?

Thanks, I do check with the coach for these things. Exactly because it's so important for the safety. For my recent mens gymnastics competition i did use my uneven bars grips, but we specifically checked they werent dangerously long on the high bar. They weren't even close to risking grip lock...

    Women GB to USAG

I don't have experience with UK and US gymnastics, but I have gathered a lot from others over the years. Prices: like the previous commenter said, the prices vary across the US a lot. From what I hear, it's WAY more expensive than in most west european countries. Training type: The US has two...

Women Strap bars with gloves too slippery?

Just a related question, but is it also possible to use like grips and straps at once? I also do mens high bar, so I'm getting high bar grips soon and I was wondering if you're working on giants or such on high bar, if you could do so with grips but using straps for safety.

Men How to improve on pommel horse

I think we actually do! I know there's one at our gym, I've used it before, I'll just need to check if I have good access to it. I think we might even have a mini pommel like that rather than a mushroom, I think I'd much prefer that for some reason. I think it's a great idea, especially for...

    [Meet] Competition hair

I'm kind of in an exception here. I really dislike hair gel, and I don't like hairspray. I like feeling like myself at meets, so I don't use gel or hairspray at all. I just put in two braids or a tight bun depending on the routines, and it it gets a bit frizzy it gets a bit frizzy. Recently...

Men How to improve on pommel horse

Hey everyone, Not sure if to post here or on coaches page. I'm very much a beginner in mens gymnastics. I'd like to get better at pommel horse, I wonder if anyone has some good info on how to gradually progress. I'd like to learn the strength to do more skills, and do them more fluently. I am...

    Women Maybe bragging a little?

Hi, sorry about your ankle. Unfortunately no adult camps that I can find where I'm at. If you've got any good ones in the UK to recommend, or other countries, feel free. I probably don't have the money, but if I can find the money I'd love to go abroad in the holliday and go on a gymnastics...

    Women life after gym

Honestly, I think it's super important to have time off sometimes if you need it for this reason. Even some of the top elites take time off. Simone Biles took hollidays and stuff. Gymnastics is better and easier if you keep the passion alive, and for that you need to have a life outside of it.

    Injury Growth Plate checks

So, I used the word hobby to kind of indicate what's normal here where I live. Something like team gymnastics in the US is way more rare here, because no matter how high the level, unless you're top sports level it's seen as a hobby. Which makes low hours and rec way more common here for every...

    Injury Growth Plate checks

How old is she, what is the ramp up? 1.5 hours to 3 at 16 yo is a very different story than 10 hours to 20 at 10 years old for example Most of all I'd advise to keep a good eye on nutrition if her hours are ramping up. The more you train, the easier it is to underfeed unknowingly, because you...

    Injury Growth Plate checks

I've gone to a gymnastics fysio pre injury. I know I'm injury prone and hypermobile, so I just wanted to discuss if there was anything I should do to prevent injury. As for growth plates... What do you want to get checked? I think the best option is just to call some places and see if there...

    Women Maybe bragging a little?

have fun! Honestly, these really aren't spine breaking skills. There's no backbends or back handsprings or walkovers in my routines :) Good luck getting into better shape. And honestly, don't feel like you have to let that stop you if you'd wanna join sooner. Gymnastics could also help you get...
