Parents What To Do While DD Is Practicing

What is a parent to do while gym practice goes on.... and on...and on? How about taking up knitting?! LOL!

    MAG Return to to practice

My 14 yr old DS is a first year level 9. Almost two weeks ago at a competition he peeled on his highbar dismount and landed on his head. Freak accident. After assement, we admitted him to the ER. CT and MRI were taken and came back clear of any fractures to the spine. It was diagnosed as spinal...

    Parents Overheard at practice...

HC relayed an anecdote after practice that she overheard today. My DDs training group includes one girl (teenage platinum) who consistently complains she is bad at this and that- whether she takes first or last it's always the same. Today she was repeatedly complaining that she was bad on bars...

Parents Article on why parent's shouldn't watch practice

Link Removed It is about soccer, but it made me think of all of the practices I have watched for both of my kids. Sometimes, kids want their parents to see them progress at practice, do the first BHS, etc. but as they have gotten older I have found the pleasure in "staying away." Enjoy!

WAG badly sprained ankle practice schedule

Can anyone give me some good exercises and skills to do with a grade 2, nearly grade 3 (less than an 1/8 of an inch more to make it a full tear) sprained ankle? It's the middle of meet season so I don't want to stop practicing. I was provided a lace up ankle brace by my orthopedic to wear for 6...

    WAG Eating before practice

So I am starting to notice some problems with my DD when it comes to what and how she eats before practice. She eats lunch at school (home lunch) around 12. Then she eats around 3:30 and practice starts at 4:30. I TRY to make sure she eats a good meal at 3:30, like some pasta and salad, or...

Parents DD Goofs Around During Practice

Hi All, I'm not sure what to do anymore. My DD - age 8 - is on Pre-team but no matter what I say to her or what her coach says to her - she does stuff like swinging on the rope and jumping up and off of the mats and in general doesn't seem nearly as focused as the other girls (who are actually...

WAG What's the team practice schedule in the summer?

My daughter started recreational classes last summer, and she's doing really well. We've been told it's likely she'll make the team when they do evaluations later this spring. She's super excited. Our gym has the practice schedules posted for teams, but the effective date is right when school...

WAG Practicing routines vs. practicing skills, which is better?

Just trying to get a feel for what y'all are used to. Old gym, girls pretty much worked on routines. Up training in between, but the focus was clearly routines. Once the compulsory season finished, then they would immediately begin the next set of routines, with some up training. New gym, no...

    WAG Skipping Practice

My daughter is 9 years old competing level 4 and our season runs November - March. Her group practices 4x/week for a total of 12-16 hours per week. Some of her friends are routinely permitted to skip practice without a good reason, particularly the Saturday morning one. I only let mine skip...

    MAG Practices

I have one happy gymnast. For the next 3 of 4 days (Sunday off), they have 2-a-days! 8-11, lunch, then 12:30-3. He is so excited to be at the gym for that :) I am sure there will be a lot of games thrown in to keep them having fun, but I think just being there will be enough for most of them!

    Parents Conditioning before practice?

Does anyone condition before practice? DD's HC just changed the format to do conditioning before practice, has anyone heard of this? I think maybe too many girls leaving early for homework etc. I saw my DD working floor and looked like she was tumbling in sand. I asked her about it she said...

    WAG Holiday Practice Schedule

Do your gyms decrease, increase or retain same schedule over holiday break when kids are out of school? Our gym cuts way back. I've always thought it would be an opportunity for some great workouts with school not getting in way. I other hand, maybe coaches feel like gymnasts need some downtime.

    MAG Skills, behavior, practice

Like that title? As most of you know, we have a new coach this year. He is feeling his way still, as he came in Sept and had to dive right into season prep as well as getting to knwo his team. The level 7-9 practice has about 8 boys, all aged 11-14. So, no older boys, role models, etc to...

    Parents Always late to practice

As someone who hates hates hates being late to anything, this drives me absolutely nuts. Practice is 4pm-8pm every weeknight but Tuesday, DD doesn't get out of school until 4:05, which means if she hurries out and I found a good/sneaky parking spot we are pulling out of there at 4:10 at the...

    MAG "Loving" Gymnastics/ Practicing

Do you feel as if your child always is LOVING gymnastics? I think with my son it's very mixed (he's also very young---7 year old, level 5). Anyway, he doesn't complain about going to practice or anything, but sometimes he gets tired (he also gets up early for school). He is excited to show off...

WAG 1 month out from BIG meet? Practice Structure?

Just out of curiosity, coaches: what do your practices look like a month out from a meet? Usually our competitions are only a weekend or two apart so doing lots of routines and individual skills are what makes up the majority of our practices. However, right now we have the longest break between...

Off Topic Spending a lot less time watching practice

I am seriously working on spending very little time watching practice for the various reasons I have seen here. The biggest being letting my DD own her sport. I think the hardest thing is not wanting to miss the excitement when they get something new. I am withdrawing a little. Maybe you all...
