Any Mykayla converts out there?

I though Mykayla gave the performance of her life last night, best I've ever seen her on every event(except, ironically, vault). A couple of weeks ago there seemed to be a sentiment on this thread that "no way should Skinner ever be on an Olympic team". Any converts?

Same here, never cared for her gymnastics before but I think she really did amazing last night! Her and Ragan have both earned their way back into being part of that tough conversation/decision making process last night IMO. Not sure if either of them will make it or not (I think Mykayla has the better chance b/c of her vault) but they will certainly be considered and should be looked at for at least an alternate spot I think.

Absolutely agree!!! But I loved watching kocian last night also! By the end of the meet, my 5 yo was saying that mykayka was her favorite (instead of gabby, which has been her favorite)This is going to be an extremely tough decision...

I'm disappointed NBC didn't show her BB because she put up quite a score there. Should she make the team it's not likely she would compete beam in team finals, but it never hurts to have an extra, able-bodied athlete capable of a high 14 should something happen between prelims and finals.
Stylistically speaking she's not my favorite and she comes across as a bit conceited which I don't particularly like (though I suppose people also complain when an athlete seems to have no personality), and for all I know that could just be some kind of persona pulled out for the media and she is actually a very sweet and down to earth girl, but if she continues to perform this way I think she's a definite threat for making the team. Especially if Gabby continues to underperform. And I am disappointed that Gabby has more or less said her heart just isn't in this, I would hate to see someone who doesn't want it make the team over someone who has been working their butt off to make the necessary improvements.

She's from Gilbert Az, so I love her! My town. I am not a fan of her form, aye, but I give her props for her level of difficulty. My issue is in rooting for them all. My heart broke for Ashton last night. Seeing her cry ripped my heart out. It was like she knew that was it for her. I just wish we had more than 5 spots!

Love Amelia too, but don't think she has the difficulty, and no really strong event to warrant putting her on the team over Mykayla or Gabby. I can see her in the mix of 3 alternates though.

She did impress me last night and I've never been a fan of her gymnastics. I think she deserves it over Gabby. Wish we could take both bars girls and her and pick one between Aly and Laurie. Marta would never do that I know.

Anyone notice how Laurie outscored Aly last night even w/ a mistake on bars? And Aly did an amanar and Laurie didn't. I thought that was really interesting.

Mckayla's a fighter. You can tell she really wants it. She works hard. And I see her hugging and talking to the other girls, so my sense is she's a team player as well.

I have been rooting for Gabby since she started her come back, but I don't feel it from her soul (at all). Kind of reminds me of Danell Levya who was named an alternate.

I am an old school gymnast and have a very difficult time over looking Mykayla's form issues and lack of artistry. I am also not a fan of her personality, either. That being said, I do think she has a strong work ethic and would prefer her on a team over Gabby, who at this point just doesn't seem like she's all in.

Gabby still has bars going for her though, I think she had the 3rd highest bars score last night ? I think Marta will want 3 strong girls on bars so if the team looks like Simone, Aly , Laurie, Madison, I think we still need Gabby in for bars if Ashton is definitely no longer being considered....

Well, if all Gabby really has going for her is her bars, then Ashton has a higher bar score and is more consistent on bars. I know that there is no way Marta will bring two bar specialists since Gabby can ultimately contribute if she has to on more than just bars and beam, but a girl can wish...

I'm not sure how the alternate works - if we had Ashton there and someone who normally does vault and floor got hurt, can we bring in the alternate or would we be screwed cause she couldn't do the event? Or does any injury at all allow us to call in the alternate even when we still have 4 healthy girls? Does the alternate travel there w/ the team? How serious does the injury need to be to allow the alternate?

Laurie had an off night on bars. I think she can beat Gabby's bar score on most nights (based on recent performances). Unless the goal is to give Simone a rest on bars, a don't see a lot of upside with Gabby's bars.

I think my daughter might be warming to her. She calls her Lynyrd Skinner...mostly just Lynyrd.
