DD does 6 hours a week training. Not in a set squad as such as her gym chops and changes gymnasts around a lot with hours/days. She is hoping to compete next month but has been told if anyone is not up to scratch they will not compete. Is this standard practice? We’ve been told to practice routines at home but no guidance as to how much to train/what standard is needed. Feeling a bit lost with it all and want to help her out at home so she does not get disappointed if not selected. Any thoughts?

Country may help with info - I assume you are not US based, but most will.

Are the comps recreational in-house? Floor &Vault? I would assume if it was more formal, you would know by now as uniforms would need to be ordered.

Anything she does at home should predominantly be self driven with you as a guide/supporter rather than taking on the coaches role.

As for what to do... memorise routines - then in the gym she can focus on the detail and corrections from coaches.

Strength work, even better if you can do it together. You don't need apparatus- core body strength makes everything 'easier'

Flexibility, I like Shelby's FlexAbilities program on YouTube to follow.

Stretching- Every gymnast benefits from stretching, it never hurts. Even if it's just 20 minutes a day. We have also used Shelby Flexibilities Program (I believe it's $10 a month), it's a wonderful program!
Conditioning And Strength- Along with stretching a gymnast can always benefit from extra strength. Nothing to crazy, just a simple routine (Ex. Squats, Push Ups, Planks, V-Ups, Tuck-Ups, Leg-Lifts, V-Holds)
Routine Work- You could play her music in the living room or outside and have her go over her routine. As for the beam routine, you could draw a line outside with chalk or get a simple fold- up mat and put a piece of tape to represent a beam, that she could run her routines on.
Drills- There are actually many drills you can do at home to help her with whatever it she's struggling with. GymnasticsHQ is a great option for that.
Basics- Handstands, shapes, and basics can always be worked on.
