I'm working in my bhs stepout on beam, when in the gym with the coach standing there, not even touching me at all, I can do it just fine. But at home with mats stacked up beside the beam to make it even I can't seem to do it. I know it is all I'm my head but I'm not sure how to fix that. Any ideas on how I can work on this without my coach standing there?

Use words... read this thread...

I love the suggestion of using words, so your brain is busy & not in your way!!

This may sound silly, but have you tried taping a 4" 'beam' on your mats?

That is how my kiddos got a bunch of beam skills, we put glue & sand on the tape so she could feel if she was going "off the beam," but she worked many many skills that way & then used a beam with mats stacked & had it enough to remove the mats within short order.

Just a thought.

Beam deductions

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some help understanding my deductions on beam. I’ve been watching my videos back, but I’m having trouble figuring out exactly where the judges are taking the most off. If anyone is willing to take a look and give me some feedback, I’d really appreciate it. I’m especially curious about execution deductions, rhythm/connection issues, and anything in my acro or dance that might be costing me. The judge started me at a 10 for this routine, and I got a 9.1
