I commented about this in another thread but @skschlag noted that they have a waiver for the athletes.
Yes... that's what the article is about. I just posted it as I saw comments on Twitter that she was not allowed to take her medication. This article seems to state that she would have been allowed to take her medication.

From the research I've done it appears she would have been allowed the adderall but the team doctor would be in control of it instead of herself which might have affected how much of it she was taking. You can build up a tolerance to it. Who knows. I don't want to accuse her of abusing medication. I'll just say when I read she took adderall my first thought and opinion was "that's not good."

Is Simone still competing in event finals?

Oops, sorry, it looked just like another article link I read saying that she couldn't take it. I should have opened the link before replying

So, Simon is in for BB? Has this been officially confirmed?

Yes. They announced it last night and she is listed in the start list.

None of the alternates could have been subbed in for Simone after the start of qualifications.

Not 100% on this, so please correct me if I'm wrong: I believe that Jade or Mykayla could have been subbed for Simone prior to the start of team finals, but could not be once the final had begun. However, if one of them had been subbed, Simone would have been completely out of the Olympics--no finals. If it that kind of subbing had the same rules as the alternate procedures, that also means she would have had her Olympic credentials revoked and had to leave the country.
It would have been Mykayla (because she was the TEAM designated individual competitor while Jade was a NAMED individual) that would have moved to the main team if Simone had pulled out before team finals.
And I am wondering if Simone would have still been allowed to stay (since she DID qualify for individual finals and was being evaluated day-to-day).
In swimming, the guys who swim the prelims aren't always the same ones who swim in the finals ... and they ALL get the medals (but only the ones in the final get their medals on the podium).

I actually do not think they could sub anyone in after qualifications.

I believe they could, either Jade or Mykayla, as they went thru qualification. I am not sure but I believe that BEFORE qualification, they could sub one of the alternates (Kayla or Emma, as Kara and Leanne were out because of Covid).

When we discussed the 'alternate process' right after the trials, it always sounded like Riley never had a chance, as taking one-event specialist would be risky if the +1 gymnast was there for the alternate spot on main team.
But then I read somewhere (maybe Simone's instagram stories? Not sure) that AFTER qualification, they would have to use one of the +2 because they went through qualification, while the alternates didn't. So it sounded like BEFORE quals, they could use any of the alternates, while AFTER quals, it could be only Jade or Myk (I believe they have to submit the rosters 24 hours prior so that would have been the deadline for the subs).

Maybe I am wrong, but that's how I understood it. I tried to find some kind of official document (FIG or IOC) that would explain the process, but no luck.

I thought they could only sub once they began competing if an athlete was out due to covid?

I really don't know. I wish someone could clarify, and ideally provide a link to an official document that explains the procedure.

And, with all the 'Grace vs Mykayla vs Riley' post-trials drama, I would have expected the commentators to explain it over and over again... which they never did...

Has Simone given any recent updates on her condition? Her problems were serious enough to pull out of everything else, but now she's competing on beam. What I'm concerned about is, is she jumping the gun, taking an unjustified risk for BB since she's missing that gold medal specifically? To reprise other posts, of course it's her decision, but I can still be concerned about it.

Skinner said she's been training a double pike off beam, which she has competed before. With her issue being the twisties and not affecting the flipping, I don't see this as particularly risky.

She twisted on every floor pass, and even if you swapped out one for just a double lay, that still requires an adjustment to every pass. On bars, her routine was low end of competitive scoring with the Fabrichnova. Take it out, and it's not really worth it to tweak that routine.

Beam is the only event where swapping out the twisting skill doesn't greatly diminish her SV or competitiveness.

All excellent points. Beam's also last which meant she had the most time to adjust and gauge exactly what she can do. I do think that missing the gold from Rio likely played into the choice, but if this week taught me anything it's to trust Simone to make decisions for her own health and safety.
