Are all meets 1 day? Many are 2-3 day events, and the coach could be coaching multiple sessions of the same level. For example, Heart of a Champion had 4 sessions of bronze over 2 days last year. In addition, mileage, food, and possible overnight stay can add up quickly. And yes, some coaches do stay even if "in town," as the nights are late and the mornings are early. It does add up quickly.
Many gyms also add in an admin fee for whoever is doing all the registrations for the meet.
