We recently had our team banquet. The head coach had each girl say something about the season...and it was a very proud coaching moment for me when my team named a skill or performance they were proud of--but not a single one of mine mentioned scores or placements. Which, btw, was not the norm of the responses. It's something I'd focused on all year, but wasn't sure if they really "got" it

Congrats, sounds like you are doing a great job! My focus has always been to be the best that you can be, and the rest will take care of itself. I have many grown gymnasts that either stop by or I coach their kids, and when we relive old memories, they never bring up scores or what meets they won. It's all the other stuff that they love and remember!
