Not necessarily. I am legitimately confused about that because if the gymnasts were in any of the videos or photos then I would have thought it would have been used as evidence. Or maybe there was no need because of the plea? I guess I really don’t understand the process.

Anyway, absolutely heartbreaking either way.

I'm pretty sure that Maroney claimed that Nassar had photographed her and that no-one knows what happened to those images

Good points. I guess his denials are just a continuation of his lies and attempt to cover up his depravity.

He would often take videos after the appointments as a sort of record for the parents, or in place of notes. He would describe on film what the problem, solution, recommendation was. They were pretty touchy-feely, but not pornographic. I don’t know if he did the other as well though

He claims his electronics were shared, and that any pornographic images (i think all were deleted and from a 4-month period in 2004) were not viewed by him. He couldn't claim that if it was images of him "treating" gymnasts.

And he wouldn't have taken a plea deal if the evidence wasn't beyond compelling and beyond a reasonable doubt.

Watched Mattie Larson's statement. I don't think I've ever had such a hard time watching anything.

Here's what gets me: even without Nassar, the ranch sounds horrific. Even if Nassar had never come along, the ranch would STILL be criminally abusive, and it would STILL be utterly revolting to know that NOBODY in the USAG leadership stepped up to say this situation wasn't acceptable. ]

Sadly you are right. I really do wish that after the first complaint in 1997, that MSU had done its job properly and then Nassar would have never been able to assault as many girls as he did. But it’s sobering to think that the Ranch may have never been exposed without the scandal.

I'm honestly shocked about the amount of negative comments about the judge (not on here, but in the Dutch media)...

Mattie, Kyle and Rachael were on Megyn Kelly this morning they were very well spoken. They called out MSU and USA gymnastics and explained the history of the abuse and complaints. Others were on CBS and Aly was on Today. I really think the judge helped them get the National attention they deserve. Mattie said they were an army and the judge is their general.

Although the excerpts of his deluded letter that Judge Aquilina read in court seem to imply that he feels he was manipulated into taking the plea deal.

Which is why I LOVED it when Judge Aquilina asked him if he wanted to withdraw his plea. And he sheepishly mumbled no.

I think the fact he paid a computer service to wipe his work laptop, then removed several hard drives from his computer equipment and hid them in the garbage can at his home (on garbage collection day) the same day that local law enforcement executed a search warrant - certainly gave a strong appearance of guilt and that he knew all about the contents.

In September, the document states, Nassar paid $49 to have a computer service store “wipe” his work laptop, and also tried to dispose of two hard drives. Police discovered the hard drives in Nassar’s garbage cans when they came to search his home. An FBI agent later testified that the hard drives contained approximately 37,000 images and videos of child pornography, some showing girls as young as 6.​

She was outraged. Technically, some of the comments she made during sentencing were unprofessional, but I’m glad she had the nerve to say it. I see their POV, just disagree with them.

I'm curious. What are they saying, that she isn't disinterested and unbiased enough?

I've seen some of that, I don't think the Dutch understand that as part of his plea deal, he has to listen to the victim statements. They have called for the judge to be less passionate.

I love her and realized she is from my hometown and my dad knows the judges dad.

That is was unprofessional, she was unbiased and that she did all of it for the media attention (judge Judy was named in this comment) to say a few

I just want to make sure that everyone knows that I am not defending him, I am just repeating deluded claims from his letter.

In her closing remarks, didn't Angela Povalitis (The prosecutor) say that there were people claiming the images were planted? Disgusting if people's loyalty to Nassar was that blind.

(Not a lawyer, and someone who is feel free to correct any misstatements) Something that seems to be misunderstood about this is that is was not a trial. He plead, and this was a sentencing hearing. Part of his plea deal was to allow victims beyond the ones in this specific case to read their statements (the alternative, to my limited understanding, would probably have been trials for 100+ victims). The judge herself said in her statements that she was fully prepared for this to go to trial and to act impartially, but he chose to plead instead, admitting to the horrific acts and then compounding it with that letter, which made it clear he had no understanding or remorse. She was somewhat more dramatic than might be the usual, but given that he took a guilty plea, it was not out of line.

Agreed. I imagine that some people don't understand he was already convicted. This was a sentencing hearing. There was no reason to be unbiased about his crimes which he was already convicted of. And listening to the women was part of the plea deal. I don't think anyone expected it to turn into what it did, but I am exceedingly grateful that Judge Aquilina gave these women the space. Obviously it needed to happen. And I'm glad it happened in a "media circus", dramatic sort of way. Maybe the world will wake up now.
