I believe those three are very staunch states rights libertarians, who vote against any laws they believe are the federal government overstepping its bounds into areas they believe the constitution says should be left to each state. (Please don’t attack the messenger, just passing along info)

I don't know about the other two, but that's definitely the case with Justin Amash out of Michigan.

This is horrifying. This is very close to home and devastating in many ways. I've been sick about it all day, talking at length with other parents.

Gymnastics Ontario released a letter to all members yesterday I think, and this particular coach's suspension was supposed to end Jan 26, but they had already announced it would be extended indefinitely.

Maybe the courage shown by those survivors in the USA gave this girl the courage to come forward.

A girl just said that when she told a counselor about what he did, the counselor accused her of “ruining a revered doctor’s reputation.” Just terrible! She also says that people in her classes and job discuss the case every day and say his career was ruined by ungrateful women. Do they realize he would still be in jail because of Kyle and the porn, regardless of the medical cases?

I was just listening to this survivors testimony. She also said she was kicked in the stomach at Twistars for not finishing her floor routine (after badly hurting her back) and at the age of 8, was called a ‘baby’ and told to go cry to her mommy when she hurt her ankle on vault. She tried to hide her pain because she knew she would be berated.

But by all means, let’s keep sending level 3s and 4s there for 16-24 hours a week so they can be NCAA gymnast. I just cannot.

I’m not familiar with gyms in MI but I am familiar with the geography since I am from Michigan and lived in Lansing- I cannot imagine that there is no other gym within some kind of reasonable driving distance. What a bunch of stupid excuses for sending your child into a place you know breeds abuse.

I kind of think that there may be SOME parents (not ALL) who actually secretly revel in the notoriety of their gym. They get to say, "look at my little 9 year old, going 24+ hours, she's so good that there's just no other gym anywhere who can get her to "where she wants to be". It's not that they at all celebrate the fact that this abuse happened or that gymnasts were hurt, of course. But there may just be a tiiiiiny part of them that thinks that staying put proves their child's commitment to the sport and by association, their child's chances of "making it" someday.

In the end, it means nothing at best. And puts their child at risk at worst. And that's what those parents are missing.

Is there really no other gym in the area that can produce NCAA athletes? I could almost see a 16 year old Level 10 having a difficult time making a decision to leave. But, a 9 year old L4? wow

This happened to my child more than once. Threats to send girls to work out with the baby teams if she didn't pull a difficult skill or complained of pain were common. I don't know that I think that qualifies as "abuse," but it definitely is not a growth centered environment, and it is VERY COMMON at high level elite gyms.
