My name is Kristin and I'm so excited to have come across this forum. I coached gymnastics at all levels (toddler through compulsory) for over 10yr. I "quit" (I still sub once in awhile) when my DD Malea (4yr) was born.

Malea started gymnastics at 2.5yr old. I recently switched gyms with her, because she was VERY bored in her standard preschool class and "my" gym simply didn't have anything to offer her and wasn't taking me seriously. She spent 2 weeks in an "advanced kindergym" class before she was asked to move up to their TAG team. She is currently working part TOPS and part level 3/4. She is having so much fun and would be in the gym every day if she could.

She shows a lot of potential and is the youngest (by 1yr) kid in her class. I'm really looking forward to seeing where she will go with this, while TRYING desperately not to be THAT mom. It's hard, because as someone who was SO involved in the sport for so long it's very exciting to see your child move forward so quickly and with so much potential.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to being a part of this forum!

Hi there!! Welcome to the Chalk Bucket. I must add, your dd has a beautiful name!!! ;) (I have a Maliya, too and she is a gymnast) She started gym as a 6 year old and is now a level 5 (at 8)
I also have two ds gymmies.
I bet you have a TON of great insight, seeing as you coached, too-are you also a former gymnast? I was a dancer and taught ballet and dance for years before I had too many kids and had to quit(lol) so all I can help my dd with are the dance elements...no clue with the gym stuff, which is why i love it here!!

Great name choice :)

I am also a former gymnast, but not nearly to the extent of my coaching involvement. I only spent about 3yr in the gym and was placed in an advanced class. I quit as a level 5 (never competed) because I hated my coach. When I went back to the gym 5yr later to coach I found out she actually ended up getting fired for being mean to the kids and calling them "losers". I still wish that I had stuck it out. Though, I did switch to dance and did very well with it.

Funny side note....about 8yr ago a good friend of mine and I started a pre-team class at the gym. We were coaching levels 3 & 4 and having our girls compete AAU before they move to USAG level 4. Well, the old (retired) owner and both of our past HC told us that AAU had an "adult" division. So we (and 2 other retired gymnasts) decided to make our "comeback". Which, for me, wasn't even really a comeback. At 21yr old, I competed for the first time ever as a........drum roll please......level 4. LOL!! It was actually really a lot of fun and AAU nationals were only 2hr from us that year so we went! I walked away the AAU Level 4 National AA champion. We just don't talk about the fact that I was the only one in my age division :)

I also have 2 other children. Shaylyn will be 11yr in 5 days (sniff sniff) and is a softball player, and Easton will be 2yr in June and thoroughly enjoys trying to do everything Malea does.

Welcome to the Chalk Bucket! Great to see another parent and an adult gymnast too. Your DD sounds very talented, and it's great that she loves it so much. I have an 8 yr-old DD in step 3 WAG, and a 9 yr-old DD in recreational gym. I'm also an adult gymnast (age 44), was a rec gymnast as a kid but never competitive. I also wish I'd kept going with it longer back then instead of giving up.
