Hello CB. My daughter practices 9 hours a week and I don't usually stay for practice and I can't really see bars anyway, so not exactly sure what she is doing over there, but by the looks of her hips, quite a bit. She is a skinny little thing, but I'm wondering if it is normal to have the bruising on both of her hips? I'm assuming it is coming from bars. Ha! Thanks for any insight. ;)

another case of doing bars with bent arms/elbows.:) gotsta keep your arms/elbows straight.:)

in the meantime and until she masters keeping her arms straight, you can go to walgreens or any of the others. they sell silicone pads with stickum that she can place on the bruises.

also, and now i'm being redundant with some of my other posts, and something to look at, all of these different kinds of leos don't fit all 3 body types the same way. our experience has been that the higher cut leos on the wrong body type 'cuts' and 'chaffes' causing bruising in those areas where you might see the bruising more than another style of leo. just an fyi here.:)

sorry...not specific enough i think and my wife is not here to get what it's called. the bruising is caused by the elastic band sewn in to the leo where it goes around the leg. that's the best description i can give.:)

I actually used to get those. One time i thought i chipped my hip because there was a lump on it, but now it's all good. I guess i just grew out of hitting it on the bars, even though it still happens sometimes. (:

Do they ever go away!!! i get them really bad, but i bruise very easily, amazingly easily actually i have bruises all down my shins constantly and my hips its ridiculous lucky i am not doing bars anymore as i am competing level 5 and i can't kip but i have every other skill for level 5 so no bars for me, solution not sure i just go used to it to be honest.

My DD is L4 and 7 y.o. and has tons of problems with bars...straight, tight, just plain doing the skills...she has problems. Anyway, in the past couple weeks she has been doing more of the work on her mill circle (is now doing it alone, yipee!) and FHC and she has been coming home really bruised up on her hips and back of the knees. My older DD also got like this in L3 and L4 when learning bars skills. I laugh and telll little DD that now she is actually doing "real bars" because she is getting the bruises!!! Many of our gymnasts in L3 and L4 are very bruised up when first really learning those skills. She will be ok once she gets the skills down and straightens out! :)

Thanks for sharing. ;) I've read so much about the dreaded mill circle on here and from what I've been able to see (way across the gym behind a HUGE beam support) I've never seen anyone working on mill circles. Her gym doesn't compete until level 5 so hopefully they don't even do them? I really have no clue though. She talks about BHC, FHC, glide swings and "jumping to the big bar" though. I think we'll get a chance to talk to the coaches soon, so I'll have to ask but like Dunno said, I'm sure it is that fact that she is bending her arms just based on the huge smile she gave when I asked if her coach had said anything about bending her arms. ;) I've read enough on here to know that I should stay out of her gymnastics; I just was wondering if all gymnasts have them all the time or if it was part of the learning process. ;) The other thing she has mentioned is a sore neck. I feel sorry for her.....having NEVER done more than a cartwheel, I have no clue what is normal or not. I'm sure she is doing something else wrong, but I don't know.

for the leg circles...take an old pair of your nylons and cut them to fit. just slide it up the leg and they stay put.:)

and the sore necks come from the kids needing to feel like they must throw their head back to facilitate going around the bar in a circle. and they usually do this BEFORE the hips get back in to the bar. they end up whiplashing.

My DD used to get bruises, so for a while she wore little shorts over her leo, which they are allowed to wear for bar training. The trouble was, she forgot to take them off for the other events, so I stopped sending them. I thought I'd hear complaints, but she hasn't complained and I haven't seen many bruises lately. I guess her bar skills must have improved! She is training mainly casts, back hip circles and underswings. I didn't know that about the bruising happening from bending your arms, so thanks, Dunno!

I get a MASSIVE bruise right across my stomach/hips sometimes and other times i'll have none then other times i will have 2 about the size of a 50c coin (one on each side), today i have none and i had gym yesterday, I think mine may be a weight issue (im overweight so the pounding on casts wouldnt help) it is not a straight arms thing or anything because i keep my arms straight well most of the time ahah :P I'm not doing hard skills at all actually on bars im like level 1 :( it annoys me because they don't hurt they just look like ive been bashed up :/

Oh no Jess. ;( She doesn't have them all the time either. Today they actually look like the skin has been rubbed off or a pinch hickie (spelling?). ;( My sister asked her if she uses chalk and she said no, she doesn't like it.

"for the leg circles...take an old pair of your nylons and cut them to fit. just slide it up the leg and they stay put.:)"wow...this is a neat trick...wish we would've known this last summer...my dd spent the whole summer with a white stripe up the back of her leg because of where the mill circles had peeled off her tan! lol...

soooooo glad she is shut of it and on to level 5!!! :D
