Coaches How to handle "Classroom Management" issues

Hi! I am a new xcel coach for this season, but I had been coaching rec for about a year prior to doing exclusively xcel.

How do you handle disagreements between the girls(mid to upper elementary, probably 3rd grade to 5th or 6th grade), especially when the disagreement might not be as severe as bullying but might still need to be addressed. For example, how should I respond if a gymnast approaches me saying her teammate said something (slightly) rude or got mad at her...?

In rec, I didn't have to deal with these issues as much because the kids were only with each other one hour a week and mostly doing individual stations. And if I did run into any arguments, the kids were young enough to where smoothing over problems between them was much simpler.

Going back to xcel now...

Obviously, if there was bullying and/or severely inappropriate or mean comments towards a team mate, that would have to be addressed with consequences and maybe a parent meeting, but I guess how should I handle a situation where a gymnast wants me to do something about a minor, isolated incident(at the level of "she got mad at me because I was in her way")?

First time we sit the whole group down and without naming names do the whole, you don’t need to be friends with everyone, but everyone deserves to be treated with respect, have the gym be a place they feel welcome and safe etc and ‘sometimes people have had a bad day at school/ home and might be feeling move sensitive than usual, so be careful about what you say as they may take it differently than what you intend’
If it is ongoing, then a word privately with the offender, this is usually enough.
