Hello, I am currently working on my front twisting. I have done front fulls to mats in the pit, and front 1.5 into the pit. But my issue is every time I twist, I pike towards the ground before I even am off the ground, which is causing me to not flip enough and fall backwards. I try to look up longer before I twist and say the word "patience" in my head before I start to twist, but I still pike down. Does anyone have any tips to help me.

Thank you!

I haven’t experienced this myself with front twisting but I used to pike a lot in my back twisting cause I felt like I had too much height and for whatever reason my head thought piking me down would help. My coach told me to think about squeezing my butt really tight which helped me. My other thing I could possibly think of is trying to thinking about continuing your heal drive all the way through until you land if that makes sense (think of it like a rainbow that your feet are drawing)

Do you have a video?

Odds are very high that the pike isn't the problem, but a symptom of not getting a strong takeoff, but I'd have to see a video to say for sure, or give suggestions of how to fix it.

so it’s definitely not the like down that’s the issue. You need to let yourself punch fully of the ground before twisting, drive your heals more aggressively and I would try and not twist with your arms above your head. I try and focus on my arms going up then t a T and then pulling in to twist.
It’s a good start though keep working on them!

Yup, the landing is a symptom, not the problem.

It's all about the takeoff. You're dropping your head right off the floor, so you never really have enough height to complete the skill. You want to get your chest up more on takeoff, so you're rising into the first half of the salto.

How are your front pike-open-1/2, and your front layout? I'd focus on getting those as high and clean as possible; the front 1/2 in particular should feel very floaty and leisurely, and you shouldn't feel like you have to crank it hard at all.

This is the frame of the video from when you take off. Notice how your shoulders are closed and you're almost beginning to dive forward? Your chest and shoulders and head are all falling right into the ground after this. Focus on punching up more and pulling your chest up and shoulders back. How's your front layout? How's your front pike open half? I would look at both of those to see if the problem is occurring because of the twisting or the layout, and fix from there. You should still be rising up through the first half of the skill.
