Wow, what a great place. I have been reading the past 2 days and have learned so much.
I have 1 in gymnastics. He turned 6 in August and will compete level 4 this year. I started him at age 4 in a preschool class, the next summer he was asked to be in the pre team boys class for 5-8 year olds, they had a large group last year with 13 boys. He LOVED it. It was only 1.5 hours a week, so while I knew it was heading toward the team, after asking around I figured they had 1 more year on preteam moving to 2 times a week. We were all shocked in May when they moved them all up to L4 for this year. Our gym does not move kids up to a level until they are ready to compete that level (so I have since learned) and they were working L4 routines all year, I had no idea. They wanted the boys to go 9 hours a week but since it was unexpected and all the parents freaked at the cost, they reduced it to 6 hours (3 times a week for 2 hours).
My other kids have no interest in gymnastics (a non competitive dancer, and travel soccer player) and since I did gymnastics as a child, it has been so fun watching him learn new skills, etc. It is so different having a boy in gymnastics versus a girl though. I have had to educate myself since there aren't many people to ask (about meets, the local gyms, etc), so this site is just great! First meet is in less than 2 months, then they don't have another meet until Feb where they have 2 and 2 in March. I am definitely more nervous than he will be
