I've been doing gymnastics for four years (started when I was 11) in Florida. I joined pre-team as an xcel gold 1 year later, I trained with the gold team but was unsanctioned because I didn't have all my skills. (I trained with the golds because of my age, and I was in-between skill levels of the pre-team and team so my coach gave me the choice, and I chose to train with the team). That first year of team my body had a hard time adjusting to the level of training compared to the rec, along with growth spurts at the same time; so I did physical therapy for that, along with a couple other injuries I got. One main skill I would get, and then lose over and over for the next two years was a round off backhandspring. With it being such a fundamental skill I haven't really progressed on floor tumbling very much. This year is my second year of being a sanctioned gold. I'm doing a lot better with scores this year versus my first year but I still haven't progressed much skill wise. I have my round off backhandspring but it's not consistently clean, so I can't work on ROBH tucks yet. I also have a back injury (i dont know how i got it, but ive had it for 3 months, and going to PT is helping mildly) so I can't do walkovers which limits my beam acro (standing backhandsprings aren't clean enough for beam yet either). I'm getting kind of frustrated at not being able to progress. I'm at a really small gym, and am the oldest in my level. (The highest level at my gym right now is Platinum btw).
After all that rambling, has anyone else fel like they were "stuck in a rut"? or frustrated that they aren't progressing very quickly?
How did you get out of that and keep going?
What are everyone else's experiences with this kind of thing?
I really love gymnastics and love doing it, but I'm getting frustrated.
Thansk for listening to the rambling:)
