I'm also going to start working back tucks in a couple weeks

Also, do you have advice for the form on a front layout?
And do I have a chance at collegic gymnastics? If I keep working like I do..I don't mess around...I train after practice and I come on days we don't have too...also what are good workouts? I usually do crunches, opposite leg crunches, wide diamond and normal pushups, v ups, hollow body, hollow body tuck ups...do you have any other good excersies? I really wanna try to define my abs casue I have them but I want to define them...Thanks! and please can you try to answer all the questions..if not that's cool(: thanks so much!!!!;););)

yes, what you are doing is normal as well as all your questions. whew.:)

So when someone starts a question with "is it normal..." my immediate response is always - if you have to ask, it's not.

That said, it's good that you're uptraining. As for college gymnastics - it's never out of the question. It depends on how realistic your goal is based on how old you are. If you're 13 and level 4, then odds are by the time you're 18, you will have possibly gone through 5 levels and been a level 9, which is about where some colleges accept gymnasts. Most likely, you will need to be a level 10 with some competition years under you. However, not all competitive schools are created equal, and coaches are looking for talent every year. Just because you don't meet the qualifications your freshman year of college doesnt mean you cant walk on, or continue training to try and compete (or walk on) your sophomore year.

If you have a dream, believe in it and you will find your way there.. one way or another...

You seem like a pretty typical level 5 gymnast to me, not so much a level 4. Our level fives have back walkovers, back handsprings on beam, flyaways and long hang pullovers on bars, back tuck pass and level 6 forward pass on floor, and tsuk drills into the pit by the time they finish competing level 5. Unfortunately, if you don't have your kips, you're stuck. Level 6 bars is a beast, so unless you really improve your bars in terms of casting, clear hips, being able to kip out of stuff, squat ons, long hang pullovers/baby giants you're stuck.

Yes, of course, generally you should be learning skills 2 levels above the level of skills you are competing. That is how we do things, the idea that you should get skills and be competing them straight away or even competing a level before you have all the skills is not the best way to train. You should have been doing a skill well for quite a while before you compete it.

For us an ideal level 4 would be as follow.s

Out standing at level 4 skills, and competing them to near perfection.
Have all level 5 skills and be working towards perfecting them, so by the time they get to level 5 they are near perfection.
Be learning all level 6 skills.
Doing drills and early beginnings for level 7+ skills

LOLOL This is gymnasatics - let's face it nothing is normal in this sport! Is it normal to walk never mind tumble on a 4inch wide beam 4 feet off the ground, to run at top speed at an immovabale vaulting table only to jump and twist over it and come to a full stop, to flip and twist around 2 bars ripping skin off the palms of your hands or to run, tumble and dance your way across a 40" x 40" rug and try to get as much air under you as you can?

For a gymnast yup this is normal!! Always wanting to get that next skill and moving along in levels is all normal but only if you are a gymnast.

Nothing is normal in gymnastics!!! I completely agree with cher062. Gymnasts are completely unique. Some have trouble getting skills and for some people like you, it comes easily. You are ahead of the game!!! Just keep doing what you are doing and you will continue being very successful in gymnasics. Just rememer to always have fun in what you are doing.:)
