Anybody here have experience teaching kovacs? I've got a guy who wants to learn it. Super-talented on high bar, definitely capable of it in the abstract, but my experience with this skill starts and ends with playing around with it briefly on my own, and never coming anywhere close to catching it.

Here's my initial thoughts on how I plan to go about it:

-Bounce bar with a hop at the top
-Giant with a hop at the top
-"Giant hop", but without releasing the bar (to get that upward bend at the top)
-Go for it with a mat slide

Am I on the right track here? Are there ways to break it down further? Any particular pitfalls to watch out for?

Kovacs are so cool. I watched a Gymact athlete spend the entire summer trying to catch one. I assume you have seen these videos from ShunGym but I’ll post them anyway, just in case YouTube is holding out on you.

Had not seen these!

I should have guessed shun gym would have something for this, lol

Would a kaboom double to front drop make more sense than a cody double to front drop?

They would both work. I actually see it as more of a spotting the end drill… so I wouldn’t even think you would need the extra flip. You could just do a Cody or kaboom to the stomach and get somewhat of the same effect. If the athlete is really good at tramp… then go to the doubles.
