On the back extension roll in the L4 floor routine, is the gymnast supposed to hit a split position before coming down from the handstand?

Mine never did. I don't recall too many girls doing a split to come down a few did and it definitely looked pretty. Our team usually got floor scores ranging from 8.75-9.4 if that helps...

I've never seen a split, just one leg and then the other coming down.

I noticed a kid do it for the first time this weekend. My first thought was, “Wow, that’s pretty.” My second was, “uh-oh, is it a deduction if they don’t do a split?”

It's the basic technique we teach if kids feel they fall over from a handstand. If done correctly, it's very pretty indeed
