My daugther got her giants about a 1 1/2 years ago. Her coach said she was a natural swinger and had perfect body shaping in her swings and giants. She recently has gone through fear issues and was afraid to do the flyaway. She has her flyaway back but has lost her good shaping (hallowed out position??). Her bar coach told her it was because she has grown. She really hasn't grown that much. Could it be because she still is afraid of that flyaway and so not thinking about good form but worrying about the flyaway? Is it common to lose good body shaping? What should she be doing to get her good body shaping back?

i'm pretty sure the coach is right. she has grown in areas that you are not aware of at first sight. grow in gymnastics doesn't just mean things get taller and longer. it could also mean the density of her bones. it can also mean musculature. give it some time. the coach should know what to do to get her back on track.:)

dunno is right. Any amount of growth spurt can throw off a skill until the gymnast finds where she is and gets comfortable with her new body length or shape. The adolescent years can be really trying for a lot of girls because their bodies change so much. It will take a little time and conditioning, but she should get back her shape.
