D had a meet yesterday. He did good, and almost hit everything. He got 2 of his 3 handstands on pbars (14.8), hit high bar (15.2), hit floor with a low scoring judge (15), rocked pommel with a hard judge (15.4 -judge said he hadn't given out any 15s all season), and did better on vault (14.7). Rings were his downfall. (14.1). He did manage to place 1st in his age group in the AA.

He is really struggling on rings, and has always has an on-again, off-again inlocate. I think it is related to his swings. Coach is working on it, so I know it will come back again, but I know it is frustrating D. He wants to hit everything and get that 90 AA score!!

2 weeks off until the next meet. I am so glad. a break will be nice!

Sounds like an awesome meet!! NOt sure what your question is though. My DS has his first ever L4 meet on Feb 12. I am not sure what to expect but I am looking forward to seeing him compete.

Yeah. I think I forgot the question. I was gonna ask about tips for that inlocate, but I know his coach is on top of it :)

You will have so much fun watching! Boys' meets are a blast! They can be long, but the boys just seem to have so much fun!!

Sounds like he had a really great meet! He must be terrific on pommel, and his tumbling must be quite strong as well. (My little guy has had a pretty good year on floor, but he doesn't have even one BH yet!)

Honestly, I cannot believe, when I look at our L4s, that just about all of them are going to be doing all that L5 stuff pretty well by this time next year. It is a lot to learn on six events. I'm guessing that if your little guy is doing well enough to be getting all those bonuses, the inlocate can't be far away!

I really enjoy watching boys' meets too. I'm glad my L6 daughter will finally get to come along to her brother's next meet in mid-February.

profmom-
I have to say that I am always amazed at how quickly these guys pick up, remember and perfect skills! Even watching a couple of minutes of practice yesterday, my ds did something that I hadn't seen before. It is fun to watch :)

D does love pommel and floor. Those are his favorite. Until this year HB has been his worst, but this year it is up in his top 3 :) Of course, his rings used to be one of his strongest events...now..weakest. It just cracks me up how it changes from year to year, meet to meet!

Have fun and good luck at your ds' next meet!

I have to agree with profmom, I look at those L5 routines and I can not believe they are the next step for our L4 boys. Most of our boys team (young team) will repeat L4 but they are going to start training more of L5 after their last meet. Their first real meet is this sunday.

D sounds like he is doing amazing. Pommel is so hard, he must be really strong!

That sounds like an awesome meet. Pommel is probably my son's least fave event so kudos to your son! Mine has got the circles figured out but he can't seem to get the actual routine on the pommel (sorry I don't know what the actual move is but it's when you bring one leg back and cut it through).

My son is competing level 5 this year too, but we are only doing 4 meets (1 down, 3 to go). I have to agree that it seems like a huge jump to level 5, but once they start training the skills it's amazing what they can do. It is so neat to watch how much they improve.

My son(Level 4) had a meet this weekend too. He did great! Pommels have been really hard for him, he just can't seem to get those mushroom circles, but he tied for fourth place in his age group on them!! Congrats to your son on a great meet!

Nice job! Pommels are tough but once they get it, it is fun to watch them!
