MAG Men's college recruiting - Academies vs Other Colleges

My son is entering his sophomore year in high school, so he's starting to think more seriously about college gymnastics. He's currently really interested in the Naval Academy or West Point.

What are the real differences between recruiting for colleges vs. the academies?

One of the biggest differences is the application process to the school itself. As for the recruiting, much of it was teh same for my son, as he had contact with a couple of the academies early on. HOwever, we did not go past the contact stage and he never applied, but I know the process is very different.
