We are on our 3rd gym because gym 2 imploded with no warning (incredibly strong gym with a team of over 200 girls). I've heard all the horror stories about moving gyms and poor treatment...but we have not experienced that at all. We live in a large metro area but the gym world is small where everyone knows everyone. If my daughter sees her former coaches/teammates at a meet, it's hugs and smiles and cheering for each other.

All that to say, I've given proper notice, been kind (and not completely truthful about the reasons for the move) and thanked the former gym/coaches profusely for all they've done for my daughter. It's been fine.

what was your timeline for “proper notice”?

For more context, when gym 2 imploded, we returned to gym 1 (they were able to accommodate 8 girls from our team) so that the girls could have a season. But I knew gym 1 was not a long term fit. So after my daughter qualified to regionals, I let her head coach know that she'd be departing after regionals. She was coached through that event and did well and we parted ways. So it was about 3-ish weeks between state and regionals. My daughter also attended her banquet several weeks later and it was fine!
