hitting 4 for 4 honestly means nothing

I agree with this.

If you are going up against a 39 AA kid and you are a 36 AA kid... then your 4 for 4 can still lose to the 39 going 0 for 4. Basically the 39 could fall 4 times and still be a high 36 or even a 37. Hitting 4 for 4 only matters against athletes of similar abilities.

In other words... if I have a L10 with a 9.5 start value and she hits her routine... it's still counted as a hit... but it's obviously not going to compete against the athlete that hits with a 10.1 start value.

Last year it looks like the all stars competed in the short sleeve regional leo. Same one the level 9s use.
Level 9 gets an Eastern national leotard, they don't wear the regional leotard. My daughter went to Eastern. She got a short sleeved comp leotard, a warm-up, shoes, T-shirt, and a bag.

I think USAG should then question WHY nationals is about a battle of some arbitrary regions that aren’t evenly matched anyway. Region 2 doesn’t even have enough girls to fill out half of most of its age groups for example.

Does anyone even really care what region won? I’ve never once looked it up or cared, but I definitely look to see how all the girls I know did.

Do away with the region competition and change the purpose to be the best of the best in the USA. Make qualifying % based with a higher minimum score and equal age groups at regionals. Then reset age groups again at nationals based on who qualifies.
It would be unbalanced with some states/regions always dominating. Also, the judging. In the current system, the region gets the same judges for all the states from that region competing to qualify to nationals. In some regions, scores are lower because judging is tougher. I think it's pretty fair as it is, even though some high-scoring gymnasts end up not qualifying. My daughter's gym has a girl from Senior A age group who placed 8th with a 38.2. Her 8th place was higher than 6 other Region Senior A, AA Champions. I get it, but I also don't think you can do a qualifying score or percentage unless every gymnast in the country competing at the qualifiers has the same set of 4 judges, which just isn't possible.

10.0 + .1, not 10.1 (that has been drilled into our heads) :)

Yeah not sure what to think, but a girl in our team made it as a specialist and they wouldn’t give her the level 9 Leo…they said hers would be picked up at the meet. So, idk
All the apparel is picked up at Eastern/Westerns or Nationals. They get it when they check in.

Yep... we don't say it that way in the coaching world... it's a 10.1 start.
I will argue that point every time. It's a 10.0 + .1. There is no 10.1 start value. The coaches need to say it correctly because now I hear even level 8 gymnasts' moms telling coaches that they "want their kid to have a 10.1 start value and how can they get there?"

The .1 is added to their final score, not the SV. If they already score a 10, they do not get a 10.1. I know you know that, but most parents don't, and even a lot of gymnasts don't. We have to keep it clear. Just add the word "plus." "it's a 10 plus 1 start value."

And still… no one cares… 10.1 start.

well I care, and judges care, and the USAG Staff cares because they emphasized it at Congress and Symposium and state clinic. 10.0 + .1 Start Value. It's not that hard to be accurate. There is no SV above a 10.0.

Not trying to stir the pot by any means. But Has anyone out there got a 10.1?

You cannot score above a 10.0. So if you say it's 10.0 SV + .1 and you score anything over a 9.9 you only get the amount to take the score to a 10 added. If you say it's 10.1 SV and you have anything less than a tenth in deductions you score a ten. If you qualify for the bonus and have one tenth in deductions or less you score a 10 no matter how you refer to the SV. Technically both ways of saying it are incorrect as if you score a 9.95 out of 10, you'd get a .05 bonus & and if you have .05 in deductions and take it from a 10.1SV you still only get a ten.
