The gym we are currently at splits some of the levels up. For example one group of level 5s will practice 12 hours a week because they are more talented or because they have a better gymnast body type. The other group will practice about 8-9 hours a week. They all go to the same competitions and are "teammates" but they don't even practice together. Is this standard for most gyms? It tends to lead to some resentment on the part of the girls who are not supposedly as talented. Anybody have any opinions on this?

Our gym does the exact same thing. They even call the lower level team the "B" team. I think that they should think of a better name than that IMHO! Maybe the "recreation" team? Anyways, the teams are very separate and although there have been a couple of meets that we have ended up going to with them, they keep to themselves. I am a little frustrated with our "A team" HC in that at one meet, one of the gymnasts was friends with a little girl on the "B Team" and our head HC would not let her go over and talk with her. I guess it was during the competition but I don't like seeing that kind of exclusiveness encouraged. There is some crossover from the "B Team" to the "A Team" where gymnasts are encouraged to try out for the higher team and a few have moved on to the more advanced team. I think I have seen other gyms doing this too. I am not sure that they are always as blatant about who the "A" and "B" teams are though. I am interested in seeing some more posts on this.

Thanks for the input. I also posted this in the Questions and Answers Forum because I didn't get much response here. There have been quite a few posts on it over there. Thanks again!
