My DS!!! My youngest DS (7) joined the team about a month ago. I have been letting him try it out for the last month just to make sure he would enjoy doing team and like all the extra hours. He had been doing rec classes for the last year or so, only 2.5 hours a week and he has now jumped to 6 hours. So far he's having a blast!!

He working on level 4 skills and doing great so far! He may do a couple of meets at the end of the season if he is ready....he is pretty good on most events except that evil mushroom!

I have to comment that boys gym is so much more laid back than girls! It's great!! The girls put so much more pressure on themselves than the boys!

I am sooo happy for him ..... just not my checkbook!!

Congratulations! My DS is also a new L4 this year. The meets are . . . let's just say . . . a little different. (They do a warm up, and then essentially a loooong full practice, and THEN they compete bang bang bang all the way through. Just plan to take your bathroom break before they start on the events!) I've become convinced that mushroom is for L4 boys what kips are for L4 and L5 girls. Then we get kip drama all over again as the boys move up!

I think gymnastics has been a wonderful sport for my son. He's matured so much because of his interactions with his coach and because of the combined team and individual nature of the sport. He's doing so much better in school, I think because he's learned a lot about patience, focus, and the need to attend to details.

Good luck to your son! I'll look forward to hearing how he likes it. My little guy has his next meet next weekend and is very excited and nervous.

Welcome to the world of Men's Gymnastics! My son has been doing it for a while, and it is amazing. I love the boys' side...very laid back for the most part. And to watch them gain strength is so fun!!

That mushroom...sigh.... I can tell you that once he gets it, he will get it :)

Our first meet is this weekend! Very excited. Keep us posted on how he likes it ;)
