If you check out how much judges get paid you can easily see they are not doing it for the money. I know a few judges, they all love gym and seeing the kids do well, they are sad for the ones that struggle. They also get to know our girls, we only have a few in our region so we see the same faces year after year. Our head coach, who is now a judge too, often sees judges who were at her meets as a National level gymnasts, very cool small world.

Judges can and do make mistakes, but they are not out to make girls sad. I firmly believe that the gymnasts should learn to evaluate whether they did a good routine or not regard;less of the score.

I joke with my DD sometimes that she be happy if she fell off the beam and got the gold medal (did happen twice) rather than doing a perfect routine and coming 12th (often happens), just can't be the best all the time.:D

Beam deductions

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some help understanding my deductions on beam. I’ve been watching my videos back, but I’m having trouble figuring out exactly where the judges are taking the most off. If anyone is willing to take a look and give me some feedback, I’d really appreciate it. I’m especially curious about execution deductions, rhythm/connection issues, and anything in my acro or dance that might be costing me. The judge started me at a 10 for this routine, and I got a 9.1
