Hello, I will be entering my jr year of high school, and last year I was a first year platinum. I am working towards becoming a diamond for this upcoming season.

I have the majority of the requirements for diamond (besides a 10.0 vault (which isnt a worry at all, since my gym doesn't require it), and either my front tuck front tuck/pike connection on floor or a front full (which I am close on working up to the floor). The rest of my upgrades I need that are new from my platinum routines are either not the cleanest form as of now, or are mentally challenging to do (I am slowly starting to get less scared of).

With that being said, my coaches (for the most part) are acknowledging me as doing platinum again, which I am unsure how I feel about it.

I will feel more secure if I repeat platinum, as I will qualify to nationals easier, and would have less stress throughout the season. But I would not compete any of my upgrades at all, get bored halfway through the season (which is what happened when I repeated previous levels), and feel less confident on working new skills to compete diamond my senior year, because I don't feel capable of competing a higher level.

But If I did compete Diamond next season, I would like the challenge, but it would bring a lot more stress to qualify to nationals, and If i did not qualify, I would let myself down on one of my main goals.

If anyone can give me advice on if you were my coach and got decide what level would be best for me to compete next season, what level you would put me in? Thank you!

If you are planning to go to college, junior year of hs could possibly be a little more stressful with making sure to keep your grades up, taking the SAT/ACT, college visits, etc. From that perspective, I'd say that maybe doing platinum would be better.

I've never been a coach but my dd's coach talked to the Xcel platinum girls and really listened to what they wanted as far as levels because they were all 15+. As long as they could do the skills safely, they were allowed to move up. Most of them decided to stay an extra year in platinum for less stress. And also because the gym was very low hours so they were not confident that they could get the skills over the summer.

Maybe you could talk to your coaches and see if you could compete some of the upgrades in platinum then you'd be really set for diamond your senior year.

Are you talking about YMCA Nationals?
If so, you could qualify as an event specialist in Diamond on any event you get at least an 8.5 ONCE during the season. If you end up getting an 8.5 on each event (but in different meets), you qualify to compete AA at Nationals.
