Does anyone have any tips for connecting my backlayout to my round off back handspring? I have a level up meet to make platinum and she wants me to compete it to make platinum. I’m solid in all other events. I have a very high rebound out of my round off back handspring but when I go to do my layout my knowledge of shapes just disappears. I’m ready for this skill and have been dreaming of doing it forever. Any tips would be appreciated.

connecting from backhandsprings is hard for me too. i can layout and twist, but for some reason whenever i try to do it from a back handspring its gone. its a weird mental block. however its not required to compete it out of a bhs. many girls do roundoff-layout (i did this year). its easier for most xcel girls (i have a higher rebound, less time for mental block, but it depends on the girl obvi) but it can depend on the gym. if your gym requires you to do it from a bhs, thats their rules.

maybe try connecting it into a pit or off a tumbl track. more bouncy, safer, and can lessen mental block anxiety,.
practice high back tucks. if your back tuck is low theres no chance of making a layout. a layout needs to go up.
dont over think it. just go for it! you can ask for a spot or a stingmat/4 inch mat, if that would help you. good luck!
