Right. Our gyms are open, but the schools are closed for at least four weeks. This includes pretty rural areas. I thought those areas would hold out closing schools for as long as possible.Up to 19 now, with one being a teenager
They will likely be forced to close. Spain and France just did this.I don’t think small businesses will close unless they are forced to or provide financial incentive.
I'm making my kids run and condition every day.So my next (much smaller) worry is how we’ll keep competitive gymnasts in shape if they’re out of the gym for weeks. My daughters are both optional level.. Maybe a home workout plan?

As of last practice, our YMCA hasn't cancelled any classes, so we still have gym (could change at any point though). The "bright side" of our District Meet being cancelled for this weekend is that on Thursday, more than half the team girls took the day off - some were sick with REGULAR stuff and some figured that they don't have a meet to prepare for, so it is safer to stay home / there are better things to do / or something else. The only ones that will be consistently there in the next month would be those that are going to YMCA Nationals, and even for those girls, they may not come every practice. How many gyms are still open? Ours is open..I’m still coaching and the kids have practice. Weird since I’m working from home for my other job and the kids are out of school. Several gyms in our state are now closed though.
I haven’t heard of many gym closures in CA. Our gym is open and a big gym but they are staggering all the groups to keep under certain numbers. My guess is that if regionals is canceled they will reduce hours. As of last practice, our YMCA hasn't cancelled any classes, so we still have gym (could change at any point though). I can't believe that CA gyms are not closed. Basically everything is closed other than grocery stores and restaurants and we are at 63 cases.I haven’t heard of many gym closures in CA. The house just passed a bill for this with bipartisan support and it is looking like the senate will pass it as well - Link RemovedAnd maybe the US will also do the smart thing and provide assistance and support to small businesses and individual workers affected by HAAAAAAHAHAHAHA oh my god I almost made it through that sentence with a straight face but couldn't quite manage it
Color me pleasantly surprisedThe house just passed a bill for this with bipartisan support and it is looking like the senate will pass it as well - Link Removed
Yeah, I’m guessing this will happen sooner rather than later.I expect everything to close by the end of this week. Prepare yourself and your children for this.
Is this the whole state? Colorado just shut down ski resorts today. I’m guessing they’ll go to this by Tuesday.I saw this in the Philadelphia Inquirer this morning. I am not in Pennsylvania. I am in another state and our gym is still open but this says to me that most states will move this direction in the next week. It's terrible and I feel for our gym owner as they are trying to stay open but I expect that they will be forced to close for a period of time.
Pennsylvania officials urged most businesses in Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, and Chester Counties to shut down now. If they didn’t, officials warned, the governor or state’s secretary of health could make them by invoking a law intended to protect public health.
Wolf’s list pares down life in those counties to bare essentials, voiding most excuses to leave the house aside from getting groceries, buying medication, and visiting a doctor. The list of nonessential businesses included gyms, hair and nail salons, retail, casinos, bars, community centers, golf courses, shopping malls, and even state liquor stores. Restaurants, Wolf noted, should stay open only for carry-out and delivery. Medical marijuana dispensaries can remain open.
Admin hat on.
It is difficult to discuss this without politics. It’s also difficult to have a conversation about anything without the virus being a part of it.
Please try to keep politics off the CB. I have my own personal opinions about what the government should and should not do. We have discussed this thread and are giving as much leeway here as possible.
Lets try to keep the focus on what gyms are doing to deal with it. Who’s closed. What gyms are doing to help the staff and gymnasts.
For those whose gyms are closed what are your athletes doing to keep in shape? Are they making you work out with them? Is your gym limiting rec classes and staggering groups? Do you have a tiny gym that is functioning as usual? What are your families doing to support each other and the coaches? Feel free to start a thread about any of these. Just keep topics as positive as possible.
Admin hat off.
