What body type would be preferred for being a tumbler and which for a base?

I know that body type is not the only factor that is taken into consideration, but I overheard one of the coaches saying that although a boy wanted to do tumbling he believed that he had the perfect build for being a base, and I wondered what he meant!

Thanks :)

WHat sport are you talking about? Doesn't sound like gymnastics. If you look down to the bopttom of this page you can see some links to other threads about body types, they may help you.

BUt let us know what specific sport this is for, that will help with the answers.

Presumably you mean sports acro?

Tumbling you tend to need to be short, with short powerful legs and lots of explosive strength.

For an acro base you can get away with being taller, and you need static strength to hold balances, and upper body strength to lift and throw your top.

Like you say though, build is probably the least of your considerations, although I'd say there is more of a type for tumbling.
