I'm going to a meeting for parents interested in a new gymnastics facility and team that is opening in our area. We are probably not going to be switching immediately, but definitely could be interested in the not-too-distant future. What questions would you ask at such a meeting? Of course, "the proof is in the pudding" of course. Even if the owner/HC has all the perfect answers, it still doesn't mean that it will be the perfect gym. But, if you were going to such a meeting, what questions would you ask and what kinds of things would you be looking for? Thanks!

Booster club - will there be one, is it mandantory, is there a yearly assessment fee, do you have to participate in fundraising? If so, what do the funds cover?

How is promotion to the next level handled? Is there a score requirement beyond the USAG minimum?

How strict is the practice schedule/is there a make up policy?

Mostly I would just see what the general "feel" you get is. I have seen all variety of details work out well when there is good leadership and consistent expectations. Basically I would be trying to get a handle for how "competitive" or "intense" the program seemed to be aiming to be, and then decide based on what I was looking for whether that was the right fit.

I have to agree with gymdog on just getting a feel. I would want to know how many coaches for the teams or will the owner try and do it all for the 1st year? Cost, cost and cost. Since there is no booster club right now, everything will be paid for by the parents. Number of meets planned and general philosophy.
Hopefully the owner/HC will cover alot in the presentation and have handouts to look over.
