Can someone explain Region 5 level 8 State Team? Is there one per age group, or 1 State team for the level 8s (the top 8 gymnasts AA scores regardless of age groups)?

Wow! Per age group? That’s a lot of people. Are you sure? That seems like it would be half the people in some age groups.Top 8 per age group. Age groups should be determined this week now that all states in region 5 are finished their state meets. Age groups are according to the regional meet and may differ slightly from the state meet. Gyms will be notified of regional teams.
How do you do that? The meet would be huge! We have 12 age groups for level 8. And then you have all the other states in the region. Oh my gosh, is it a 4-day meet? Our 8 states send their best 8 gymnasts regardless of age to compete against each other in a special session. It is per age group
So it’s more like a min nationals (but just Region 5) rather than an actual State Team competition. Our Region has the best level 6, 7, 8 gymnasts (the top 8 AA scores regardless of age) represent each state in a special session. They get a special uniform and warm-up, too. Each state sends just one team, the best of the best, and the others that qualified (based on number of gymnasts allowed, not a set score) compete as all stars. There are only 5 states in region 5 so each state sends the top 8 in each age group (usually 10 age groups) and then anyone outside the top 8 that achieves the qualifying score goes to regionals as an All Star. The states compete against each other in a super team sort of competition. The problem is that Kentucky and Indiana can never fill all of their age groups so it’s really only Illinois Ohio and Michigan competing in the Super team. Obviously there are individual awards in addition to super team awards.
