In region six, each state has their own state meet. They then list the gymnasts who competed in rank order by all around score at states, regardless of age. The gymnasts with the top seven all around scores in MA make the MA state team. Same for CT, NY, ME, etc. Those state teams compete against one another in the state competition.

The next part gets more complicated. If they are looking for say 60 all stars total for silver, they divvy those slots up by state based on their number of gymnasts. So if MA has 25% of the Xcel silvers, they’d get 25% of the 60 slots (so 15). That means gymnasts numbers 8-22 would be the MA all stars. If RI has 10% of the total silvers in region six, they’d get 10% of the all star slots- so they’d have their top at states on the RI state team and gymnasts number 8-13 would be the RI all stars.

States teams have their own sessions for silver-platinum. They do individual awards, as well as determine the winning state team. All stars then compete against one another in their own session, but only do individual awards. -** Diamond is the exception. They do only one session, but only the girls on the state team contribute to the state score.

In the Diamond session, who are 'all stars' and who are on the 'the state team'?

It’s done the same way- top 7 are state, then all stars are a percent based on numbers. MA just had states and announced that top 7 are state, next 6 are all stars so only 13 gymnasts qualified to regionals (231 competed at states). Other states will have a different number of all stars. Diamond is a small level, though, so they do both state and all stars in one session, thus constraining the number of gymnasts.

Do all regions do all star or state teams for XCEL? My daughter is wavering between trying JO 8 and XCEL Diamond after a back injury and some setbacks due to time out of the gym for recovery.

I know region 2 does not. At state, Diamonds just need a 34.0 AA in order to qualify to regionals. Platinum is 35, and Gold is % of % (they just announced that the top 114 from WA state, mine, will qualify)
