Yes our gym does this for the optionals team, not sure about other teams since I'm not there at the end of practice.
 
Same...I didn't know this was widespread either. Is this a holdover from an imported/foreign born coaching style? It reminds me of a government-sponsored sports program where you are chosen to be an athlete (not so much the high fives but the actual thanking of the coaches).
 
Do your gyms require height order line up and saluting to your coaches before every event and then doing the same after the event but also thanking them in unison? Just curious because it’s always bern a thing at my gym but some new girls were confused.
 
Back in the 70’s I trained at an elite training gym. We had to bow to the equipment before we started our routine and bow to the equipment when we were done. I was told that this was a Japanese custom of some support to show respect. We thought it was weird but there were many weird things that went on in that gym!
