What have you seen work for Severs disease? My 10-year-old has been mostly out of the gym for 2.5 months due to gymnast’s wrist. I thought this long rest would also heal his severs but that’s not getting better either. He goes to gym a couple times per week and does a little floor (front tucks, layouts, and fulls) onto the resi mat. He can only tolerate a handful of reps before he’s limping around with heel pain.
I have briefly discussed the Severs with the PT and sports med doctor but it’s a bit of an afterthought because we are mostly there for his wrists (which are also not healing). The PT recommended heel lifts for his shoes and calf raises. The Sports med doctor gave us a paper with some exercises and told him to start wearing shoes at home. I got him Cheetah Cups to wear at gym but coach told him that they are unsafe for gymnastics. I have been using a massage gun on his calves and feet to work the soft tissue.
I’m wondering about other options: dry needling, shockwave therapy, red light, acupuncture, taping, insoles. I’m open to anything that is not outright quackery!
