DD had a layout 1/1 on floor, but she recently told me that she lost it. She now feels like she doesn't know which way to twist. She says she feels stronger going right, but can't control the power. She says she feels more in control going left, but can't make it around. She is now afraid of chosing the wrong direction, fearing that if she picks the wrong one now, it will be a problem in the future.

Is this normal? Does anyone have any advice on helping her feel confident that one direction or the other is the correct one for her?

Time should fix it. It happens. Her coach should be able to help her settle on one direction and she should only go that way.

it's vestibular. us coaches call it the "twisties". if the coach knows what they're doing, they will back up, start over and then move forward slowly again. :)

Whenever DD and her teammates work on twisting, they always "twist down" at the end, finishing the rotation with a few layouts. They have a rotation now where they're going up to doubles, but after each double they have to do a full and then a layout. When DD started having some trouble and feeling lost in the air, her coach told her to take a little time off of the doubles. This has seemed to keep her and her teammates from running into significant problems.
