Hi everybody! So I am competing Xcel Diamond this year, but I don’t have a high bar dismount. Flyaways are terrifying to me and I would really rather not do one. So my coach found a straddle shoot off 1 1/2 twist as another “B” dismount. But I am having a hard time landing on my feet even out of a 1/1 twist. Any suggestions? Or if you have any videos of an athlete doing this skill so I can watch them and see what I should be doing please send them to “[email protected]”. Neither me or my coach has ever seen this with a twist so we really don’t know how to improve it. Thank you!

I figured there would be coaching advice on the coaching thread and advice from athletes on the athlete thread. Both of which would be helpful right now. Do you have any advice?

There are plenty of coaches and plenty of athletes here, and most of them browse multiple parts of the forum.

We have also had a history on this forum of people getting caught faking their identity here, and a lot of them turn out to be creeps.

So I'll ask again, and you will either answer directly or catch a ban:

Are you the coach or the athlete?

My apologies, I didn’t realize it was such a big deal. I am new to this website and was not aware that people browsed both. I am the athlete in this scenario.
But honestly this is coming off as very rude on your part, why does it matter if I am the coach or the athlete? I am just asking for advice on a unique skill and did not want to get talked down to as an athlete from coaches but also wanted advice from other athletes without them feeling the pressure of talking to a coach.

When it comes to moderating, I am unabashedly rude, sarcastic, and impatient. Expect none of those things to change.

It does not matter whether you are the coach or athlete, but it does matter whether you are being honest with the community here and *especially* with the moderators.

Anyway, with all that behind us....

I'd have to see a video to say for sure what you need to work on here; this is an unusual skill, so I can't really discuss what the most common mistakes might be, because there are no "common" mistakes on such an unusual skill.

In general terms, you need three things here: a small amount of flip rotation, a large amount of twist rotation, and to land at an angle where it's actually stickable. Those last two in conjunction are difficult, because twisting tends to tilt you off-axis, which makes the landing very hard.

A video of an attempt would be very helpful.
