I’ve been debating if I should quit gymnastics the past month, and I been thinking about quitting before but I ended up liking gymnastics again so I didn’t quit. I feel like quitting again and here’s why.

1. I don’t feel like I fit in.
Ive done gymnastics for 4 years almost 5 and I went to this gym for 2 years almost 3. I’m kind of quiet at gymnastics so I don’t have any friend really even though my teammates are nice I don’t have anyone to talk to and make practice more fun, and I don’t have a fun and talkative relationship with the coaches like all my other teammates do, I don’t get pep talks when I cry at all which is barely ever but when everyone else cries they get a pep talk and it’s unfair. One of my coaches don’t even acknowledge me sometimes, she made upgrade lists for everyone but me and that made me hurt. Although I have coaches that do care about me.

2. I’m constantly yelled at.
I always get yelled at for doing something wrong, I’m always picked at , if I have a mental block, I’m yelled at then my coaches just get frustrated and not talk me through it like they do my other teammates.

3. Always injured
I tore my groin twice and I’m currently recovering from one and I can’t really do much at practice which sucks because it’s summer practice/upgrade season

4. Might not level up I’m falling behind
I was put in the platinum group and the only XCel gold to go to platinum but because my injury I’m falling behind and I can’t really go to practice and work on lots of upgrades on floor, vault, and some of beam, I might have to redo gold.
I can’t do lots of skills not even a back tuck anymore.

5. I dread practice
The thought of going to practice makes me scared cause I don’t wanna get yelled at anymore and I don’t wanna watch everyone else get better and I stay stuck, I’m happy for everyone else but it hurts so it overall made me not enjoy going to practice, I skip practice lots

6. I’ve been looking at other sports
I was thinking that if I quit I could join cheer and maybe be a flyer, or a tumbler or base and take classes to tryout for a team, also I can do school sports like track, field hockey, and other things

It might be just a phase but honestly I don’t know because if I quit I feel like I’ll miss it. What do you guys think?

Talk to your parents and your coaches. Explain how you are feeling about everything. After talking it through, you can make a choice. Remember, it is possible to go back to gym later, if you change your mind.
Being injured sucks! My youngest spent most of the last 2.5 years dealing with one injury or another. She wanted to quit so many times, but she "wanted to give me my 'Senior' moment."
During the 2023-24 season, I told her she could quit no less than 15 times. She said no ... but every time, within a week, she wanted to quit again. She had to miss YMCA Nationals that season because of an injury.
This past season was her senior year. She WANTED to drop back down to Xcel Gold because of all of her injuries, but the Regional Committee rejected her petition. She had to compete Platinum. She wanted to quit when she found out. I said ok. She said no. She wanted to quit another 4 times this past season, but stuck it out to the end. She had a senior moment at the District Championship Meet and again at YMCA Nationals. She was glad she saw it through, but it still may have been better for her mental health if she had quit/retired.
