Has anyone had a relatively young gymnast start in Xcel and stay in Xcel and have no regrets? I think if my daughter was older it would be more clear cut for me.

I see a lot of posts asking about moving kids to DP to give them the chance for college. And recommendations to change course as soon as possible. I'd like to hear about some experiences from the other side.

I don't think my daughter understands yet what the differences between Xcel and DP are. She loves gymnastics, her team and is doing quite well. She has no interest in other sports and has no other competing interests, which I hear often as a reason to do Xcel. Will she end up understanding enough to just ask me or her coach at some point if she wants more? Her gym rarely lets kids switch tracks. I think (not 100% certain) that she would have to move gyms.

Just need some reassurance that it is ok to not be more pushy or if my plan to just ride it out will be ok.

Maybe not what you want to hear, but someone at my gym started in Xcel young and is graduating this year as an xcel diamond, and she said that if she has girls when she is older she would put them in dp. She didn’t specifically say she regretted her time in Xcel though. I don’t think it is vital for you to make the switch now, so don’t worry to much and just keep monitoring and reassessing.

Xcel is a great program and as long as your daughter is happy and thriving I wouldn’t worry about making a change. My daughter started in Xcel and always wanted to move to JO (now DP), and she did move. She’s a l10 now, but it has been such a hard road. I sometimes wish she’d stayed in Xcel and it could have remained fun and not so all consuming. DP takes a lot.
