I have been having some issues with always kipping out of my straddle backs. My coach has been telling me to hold on to the bar longer so I can get closer to handstand and not fly over the bar. I always feel like I am holding on to the bar for as long as I can, but it isn't enough. I am a little bit afraid of holding on to the bar though, I feel as if I wont make it to the bar. Are there any good drills to get over this fear or just to hold on in general??

Go back to the stack of mats until you get the feel for the later release if this is what the coach says you need to work on. Also, make sure you are pushing the bar as soon as you catch it. I see a lot of girls grabbing the bar with bent arms and giving that slight pull to make sure they have a grip. This makes the kip really difficult after the catch.
