I think it also depends on the experience and style of the coaches. Our optionals levels 6 thru 8 train together as a group of 20 with 2 coaches and with stations at each event there is zero down time/waiting in line. Our former gym didn't really do stations and there was lots of waiting around.

each event - meaning per coach at any given time.

My son’s coach manages a group of 16 by himself very effectively. There are multiple levels and they are typically split between two different events. There is a white board with everyone’s assignments for the day spelled out. The boys (ages 8-18 and levels 5-10) know what they need to do and the coach rotates between the groups offering corrections or spotting. It’s very impressive how well-organized it all is.

I can see the advantages of smaller groups but I don’t know how a gym could keep tuition reasonable with such low ratios.
