So I am in Xcel Gold, and I had my first meet in a while due to injuries this past Saturday. I did pretty good at my meet, but some of my skills need some work. My chest is always down in a lot of my skills, like my vault and my front tuck. I am twisting too early into my half-on vault, and my chest is down. My hips also pike and I go up, but then dive down in my front tuck. I have been doing front tucks over tall mats to get my chest up, but it is still kind of low. Any tips? Also this is kind of not related, but does anyone have tips to feel more confident and ready for a meet? I don't know why, but I am feeling kind of down and not confident in myself and I have a meet next weekend. Thank you1

When it comes to meet confidence, the key is to know that your worth as a person has absolutely nothing to do with your performance and a gymnastics meet. You are good enough exactly the way you are and you are going to go out there and do the best you can at that moment and that that’ll be good enough too. There are a lot of ways to be successful at a meet: winning medals, getting personal bests, adding a new skill, performing a tricky skill well, overcoming an obstacle (like finishing a routine strongly after a mishap or not getting flustered when there is an issue with the music), supporting your teammates, etc. You should train your brain to look for your successes. Success and failure are a matter of perspective and your perspective is a choice. It can be helpful to write a list of your successes and things you are proud of and to read it over. There are also some great mindfulness apps out there. Insight Timer is a good free one. Meditations focusing on “self-compassion” can be really helpful for getting out of feeling down about yourself.

Good luck!
