Ok, so many of you have probably read my posts about how I "lost" my ROBHS after falling during my L5 floor routine. Well now I am back in level 4 because I have been freaking out about it and I haven't even gone for one ROBHS without spot for the past three months. I have a meet coming up on Saturday and I really don't want to get spotted on a ROBHS because I had that skill for almost a year until 3 months ago, and when my coach stands by me I do really powerful ones with no help, just confidence spot. I also just hurdle into the ROBHS instead of running because sometimes I have to take more or less steps than other times and it makes me nervous if I'm a little behind or ahead of her when I am starting my roundoff. Many people have told me that my spotted ROBHS looks better than my ROBHS did before I got scared, and plus I don't even run into it, just hurdle, and my legs are straight and it's very powerful. So I am wondering if I should just go for it at the meet. Meaning I tell my coach she doesn't need to stand there and I will just go for it. I want to go for it because I know I can do it, I have done it many times before, I don't want to get a deduction because she has to touch me, and I just want to do the whole routine myself. The reasons I am scared to go for it is because I am afraid I will freak out and have to ask her to spot in the middle of the routine (there is a deduction for talking to your coach), or I will fall like I did 3 months ago. Yet, I want to do it myself because I can get a much better score. What are your thoughts? Should I go for it or play it safe and get spot?

Hard choice...

Thats a hard choice. Do you feel like you might possibly injure or hurt yourself if you perform the skill alone? It sounds like you can do it great on your own, you are just scared because of what happened in the past. Considering this is a meet where you might be nervous to start with the playing it safe option sounds smart to me. There will always be more meets to try it on your own and get it back if you choose not to do it now. At a meet is not the place to first attempt something the gym is. If you really want to do it try it at the gym at your next practice without a coach standing by you. You could go for it though, if you want to and feel you can do it. Ask your coach what they feel you should do. The choice is yours so if you want to go for it you certainly should. I hope this helped but that is a tough choice to make! :) Good Luck!

I am pretty sure there is only a deduction if she touches you. Why don't you have her stand there. That way she can be there to spot you if you need it but not touch you if you don't. That way you can be confident and go for it knowing that IF you need her she is there.

Good Luck !

I actually thought about that and my coach has offered this to me, although it may seem weird, I am less nervous without spot. If my coach is there spotting me I always worry about taking just the right amount of steps so that I will be right by her in my ROBHS. I usually hesitate for about 5-10 seconds to figure it all out. At the last meet, I didn't have her spot me, I just did a roundoff, stopped, and did a BHS. The whole time though, I was thinking of just going right into the BHS from the roundoff, but decided to play it safe. I usually have a lot of extra energy under pressure and tend to do much better at meets than practices.

I haven't made a decision yet and am open to many more ideas! Just let me know what you think. Thanks to you who have already responded.
