Hi,
I'm a 12yr old gymnast in the UK training 4hrs a week (wanting to train more) and I want to improve within my club. I'm definitely one of the best within my group skills wise although strength wise maybe not. I placed 1st at a recent comp on floor and then 4th with a sprained ankle (best in club) and want to improve to move up a group. My current best skill is a consistent RO BHS BL although can do half twists inconsistently. My current bar routine (weakest piece) is circle up/pullover BHC squat on catch baby giant straddle undershoot, training kip and sole circle. What skills can I improve at home (w air track, mat, single bar, floor beam) and what to work on at gym?

The big thing to work on at home is strength. You need to get your kip/upstart and then move on to your cast handstand to progress to higher levels on bars. Both these skills are all about core strength. Definitely work on handstands and press handstands. Handstands are the foundation for many upper level skills and you can safely work on those at home. There are good videos online showing press handstand progressions. I also recommend going on YouTube and find some core strength workout videos. Try some out and find the ones you like. You can never have enough core strength! Also, consider adding swimming to your life. It’s wonderful cross training for gymnastics. Good luck!

Good luck!
