I posted almost 3 weeks ago about DS hurting his ankle the day before state competition and then after the competition we found out that it was fractured.
We went back to the doctor yesterday. The pain is totally gone, though there is still some swelling. He is out of the boot and into a brace now, which makes him happy. He still is only allowed to do conditioning for another 1.5 weeks - no tumbling, nothing where he would land on his foot. he is soooo ready to get back to the fun parts of practice. Luckily we will be out of town for part of next week due to spring break. Unluckily, the doctor said if we are walking a lot he needs to wear the boot.
It turns out that he has some extra bones in his foot. He has one on the end of that inside ankle bone. There is even an extra growth plate there. That is where his fracture was. He has another one at the back of his heal. The doctor didn't seem to think that these extra bones will cause him problems down the road, rather are just something that makes him a little more unique.
The good news was that he lost very little strength and range of motion in his ankle over the last almost 3 weeks. So, he won't have the longer restrictions on getting back to normal activity.
