Hello,
I'm a bit angry right now because we had a situation with a rec student and their mother last week, and I believe it was handled poorly. Long story short, a teenage rec student was yelling profanity at our coaches/front desk staff to the point that cops were called. Gym owner had the rec director call the mom, and they were back to class this week.
I believe this behavior should have been grounds to ban them from the gym. What do you all think? Have you ever asked a family to leave your gym?

Yes. Parents who caused a scene cursing at staff rings a bell.

Ya know...sometimes its just ridiculous what a gym will put up with. Have a kid that is a level above my son but practices with him, he is 10, same age as my son. I personally overheard him using the N word to refer to another boy on the team. I reported that to the gym. They said they would handle it. Nothing appeared to happen.

2 weeks ago my son came home saying that this child was asking my son why he is still alive, why hasn't he killed himself yet.

That got reported immediately. Then my husband went in there like a crazy person (totally justified IMO) made a scene, personally questioned the kid and the coaches and gave everyone in that gym a clue that this kid was in the wrong. Of course the kid denied it.

The thing is the kid is a legacy student, his dad is a former gymnast there and his parents are good friends with the owner. So I guess he gets a lot of passes.

Meanwhile a female gymnast was kicked off team for calling another fat.

Before you come at me asking why I haven't moved my son, I'll let you know that he is mature enough to know this behavior is wrong and unacceptable. Also a good mens gym program isn't easy to come by.

If it's an uncharacteristic one-off there may be some back story you're unaware of - and teenagers are not known for their subtle handling of difficult emotions so while such behaviour is clealrly unacceptable it may not be grounds for removal. If it's part of a wider pattern then sure, get rid.

Wow. I agree and I'm not going to judge you for not removing him. Switching gyms is hard enough much less finding another mens gym.

Could the kid have a medical condition like tourette syndrome or an autistic diagnosis? It could be a case where the gym is worried about discrimination.
No, the whole family is a pain. When the mom came in she was cussing too. So, she doesn't exactly have good role models.

Sounds like an ugly situation. Is it impacting your kid? If this teen created a scary and uncomfortable scene in front of young kids then the gym needs to make sure the other kids and parents feel safe.

When it gets to the point that the cops need to be called, I'd say it's definitely time for the family to be kicked out.

A gym that won't kick out a rec gym family for something like that must be cheap and /or near financial ruin and needs every dollar they can get to keep the lights on. OR if they are like that on the JO side of the coin, then the family has connections and talent. Any other reason would be BS.

A girl from my gyms competitive team got kicked out because she talked back and just had an overall bad attitude 😬
