At our gym, the biggest things they look for are general athleticism and the ability to listen and follow directions. I think almost everyone who tries out gets an invite because we offer both club and level 3, so they can accommodate almost any ability, so long as the child is mature enough to participate in practices.

Not sure how it is elsewhere.
 
My son is 6 and will be attending a squad trial. What should he expect?

He’s a rec kid and has only been attending rec for a few months.
I was in your boat last fall. But my guy was 5.

Honestly his tryout was a practice with the other boys and they just wanted to see how well he kept up and if he was able to listen and follow directions. He didn’t even get to do his *BIG* skills which was a handstand forward roll and a back hip circle at the time, so it’s not based on skills at all.
